Ever notice how December sneaks up and suddenly we’re racing through each day? The shopping lists grow longer. Another party invitation arrives. And somewhere between hanging stockings and wrapping presents, we might miss what matters most…
Christmas holds more than twinkling lights and wrapped presents. That’s what pulled me to write Mercy Mild: A 25-Day Christmas Devotional Tracing Christ’s Love from Eden to Eternity. Because when we pause—when we sit with Scripture and let its truth wash over us—Christmas becomes something entirely different.
Think about it: 25 days. Each one opens a window into God’s story, stretching back to Eden and reaching toward Christ’s return. We’ll dig into Scripture together, uncovering how every word points to Jesus. And yes, there’s space for your whole family to join in, to wonder and discover alongside you.

Introduction
God has been telling one incredible story since before time began. At the center of it all? Jesus. Always Jesus.
Every sunrise since the first light broke across creation, every ancient prophecy proclaimed in temple courts, every quiet moment in Bethlehem’s stable—they all point to Him.
Over these next 25 days, we’ll uncover something amazing together. We’ll see how Jesus threads through every moment of history, from that first “Let there be light” all the way to His promised return. Each day holds a new discovery about who He is—the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.
What’s truly amazing is that He’s not done writing. The same Jesus who shaped mountains and guided prophets now moves through your everyday moments—your Monday mornings and Friday afternoons, your victories and your questions.
So grab your coffee (or tea, if that’s more your speed). Let’s walk through this story together. Twenty-five days. Twenty-five glimpses of Jesus. And maybe along the way, we’ll start seeing our own stories a little differently, too.

Tracing Christ Throughout Scripture: The Scarlet Thread
Open your Bible anywhere. Genesis? There He is. Psalms? You’ll find Him. The prophets? They couldn’t stop talking about Him. God couldn’t wait to tell us about His Son.
Consider Genesis 3. The world has barely begun, and everything has already gone sideways. Adam and Eve are hiding, sin has entered the picture, and right there—in humanity’s darkest moment—God gives an incredible hint about what’s coming: a promise about someone who will crush evil once and for all.
Fast forward through the centuries, each page adds another brushstroke to this portrait of Jesus. The prophets saw Him coming as a shepherd from tiny Bethlehem. They wrote about a servant who would carry our sin. They spoke of a king whose reign would never end.
And then He arrived—not with fanfare or armies, but as a baby—the same one the prophets saw, both servant and king, humble and mighty. When He died on that cross and stepped out of that tomb, He wasn’t just making history; He was fulfilling it.
Imagine what it must have been like for those first disciples—to suddenly see how every scroll they’d studied, every story they’d heard since childhood was all about Him.
The whole Bible tells one story. And Jesus? He’s not just part of the story. He’s the point of it.
Your Place in His Story: Discovering Your Worth in Christ
There’s a line in O Holy Night that gets me every time: “Long lay the world in sin and error pining, ’til He appeared, and the soul felt its worth.” Felt its worth. Not earned, not achieved—simply felt it, finally.
We live in a world of measures. Likes. Followers. Bank balances. Pixels and percentages. Numbers on screens that promise to tell us who we are. But Christmas tells a different story. The Creator of galaxies and garden flowers chose to enter His world as a newborn—for you.
Your worth isn’t earned. Scripture speaks honestly about our condition—sinners by nature, hostile to God. And yet God’s love reaches across the divide, not because we deserved it, but because love is who He is.
Through Christ, we become new—not through our striving, but through His completed work: His life given. His death endured. His resurrection victorious.
When you look in the mirror, see what He sees. When you look at others, remember what He gave. Your value—their value—rests not in what we achieve but in who He is.
This is the heart of Christmas: God making us His own.
A Prayer for the Day Ahead
As we begin, let’s pause with the psalmist’s words:
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law.” (Psalm 119:18)
May this be our prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father,
As we enter this Christmas season, open our eyes to the wonders of Your love revealed through the birth of Your Son, Jesus. Fill our hearts with gratitude for Your precious gift. Amid the holiday busyness, grant us quiet moments to reflect on Your love. Guide us in applying these truths to our lives so that we may grow in faith, hope, and love. May this season overflow with the joy of Christmas.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Looking Ahead: The Heart of Christmas
As we chase the spirit of Christmas, let us remember that Christ’s birth not only fulfills biblical prophecy but also satisfies our deepest spiritual longings. His coming reveals a love that surpasses understanding—a love that is the heart of Christmas. May each day of this devotion strengthen your grasp of His love and deepen your understanding of your place in His story.
Reflection Questions for Believers
Take time to reflect on these questions:
- How does Jesus’ fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies strengthen your faith in God’s promises?
- How does understanding your worth in Christ change how you face life’s challenges?
- Recall a time when you experienced a personal sense of God’s love. How did this shape your view of yourself and others?
Spiritual Conversation Starters for Unbelievers
As you engage with others this season, consider these ways to discuss the true meaning of Christmas:
- “I’ve been reflecting on what gives life meaning and value. Where do you find meaning in your life?”
- “During this season, I often think about Jesus. What’s your perspective on Him and His claims?”
- “What are your plans for Christmas? For me, it’s a time to celebrate Christ’s birth.”
Maybe you’ll read these pages early in the morning, coffee in hand. Or gather your family after dinner. Some might share them with friends. However you choose to enter this season, I’m praying these words guide us closer to Jesus—the one who makes every Christmas morning possible.
